Nelson Mandela (1918-2013)

Nelson Mandela was a was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary who was imprisoned for 26 years for treason. He was released in 1990 and soon rallied support for African rights, privileges and better opportunities. He believed in racial equality and a unified nation with laws that benefited everybody not just a certain race. With all this support he became the first south-African prime minister in 1992.

Hard Knocks

This article appeared December 13, 2010 on “The New York Times Upfront, Vol. 143” and is about head injury rate on football players increasing.  From 2006 through 2009 the at least 32 high school and youth football players were killed by or suffered permanent injuries, this is double of the previous 4 year period. This is important because if nothing is done about it the rate of football players that were killed or suffered permanent injuries would increase more and more.

Words that I was unfamiliar with

C.T.E.

“C.T.E is a head-trauma-induced disease linked to depression ,impulse-control problems, memory loss, and dementia”

I believe that in the future head injuries would be more of an awareness causing them to enforce the rules so that players don’t get injured.
